An educator can follow the formula below to engage in Inquiry Work:

  • Select a student population. This is often a subset of your students determined by a key criterion, such as performance on ELA Exams. One can go to ARIS
  • Identify a sub-skill. This is most likely an ability that you have noticed your students have not developed to the extent that you would like. One example would be the synthesis sub-skill.
  • Develop a S.M.A.R.T. Goal. This should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timed.
  • Administer a baseline assessment. You can review this to determine how best to proceed in your attempts to meet your S.M.A.R.T. Goal.
  • Create lesson plans and corresponding assessments. You will probably need to modify the plans as you move forward and learn more from the assessments about your students' strengths and weaknesses. Note that existing assessments like the Regents ACUITY test can be useful but may not be sufficient. Information about students' performance on tests can be found at the ARIS
  • Share your results. Your participation in work of this kind will give your colleagues ideas about how to successfully help our students develop the skills that they need. Thank you for uploading your plans, data, and other relevant information on the ARIS Web site!

Check this page again soon! We intend to post results of Teacher Team Inquiry Projects here.
